19 year old with special needs was arrested and sent to jail on October 11th, 2021 in Harris county for pulling a knife on another kid in his group home, whom he was afraid of. Fred’s mother went down to the police station with documents proving her son had severe intellectual abilities with an IQ of just 62. Unfortunately, while he was in that jail cell he was beaten to death by a violent inmate, Michael Ownby. Fred was declared brain-dead on Sunday, October 17th, 2021.
Fred’s family says the jail is partly to blame for his death. He should have never been in the same cell with a 240lbs violent person who was known to be a violent individual, Fred was only 98lbs, and Fred Harris should have never even been arrested or put in jail. He needed proper care and attention from guards and staff working in the jail facility, and that did not happen.
Our hearts, prayers, and well wishes go out to the Harris family in their time of grief and disbelief with the loss of their precious Fred Harris. We hope he gets the justice he deserves.
